This course invites and challenges students to look deeper, to do more complex reflections, and to give themselves more feedback. Participants will look at the skills that will help get clients to the ambivalence and the struggle. At the end of the course participants will Demonstrate and practice MI in action by applying MI in a live, recorded conversation.

Motivational Interviewing as a Path to Personal Change

What is MI as a Path to Personal Change

Motivational Interviewing (MI) sounds great on paper and sometimes helpers struggle with when and how to use it in their clinical practice. This workshop will review self-help strategies to help individuals bring MI to life in their work. 

For individuals who have had prior MI training and want to hone their skills, we will jump right into the deeper use of spirit and OARS strategies to identify and evoke change talk. This is a smaller group format capped at 40 participants to allow for multiple guided practice opportunities.

Curriculum pace and flow is intentionally designed to maximize engagement and interaction in a virtual environment, therefore participants will need audio and video capabilities.

In this two-day VIRTUAL intensive, experiential training, participants will build on their foundational Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills through:

Motivational Interviewing and Medication Management: Old Problems, New Solutions

The workshop will examine new procedures and devices to pre=emptively address  medication nonadherence. Attendees will learn how to tailor MI strategies for improving medication adherence among diverse groups seen in a variety of settings Case examples will be utilized to facilitate a better understanding of how to resolve medication issues. encountered in "real world" settings.

Each month, we gather to consider some aspect of MI through the lens of our shared expertise, and then practice with one another, doing our best to provide each other with helpful feedback.

Motivational interviewing is beginning to gain popularity within the school counseling community, but it can feel like a daunting task to incorporate into one’s practice.  This 2 hour presentation and training is designed to give an overview to those people interested in incorporating MI in the school setting, as well as starting to practice what conversations through the spirit of MI might look like.  Attendees will leave this session with a better understanding of what MI is and how to begin to incorporate it with their own practice.
