· understand the purpose of MI and how it compares to other approaches to helping people change

· understand the core spirit, processes, and skills of MI

· strengthen your empathic and person-centered counseling skills

· learn how MI can be readily applied as a best practice in your setting

Self-paced Online Introductory

Online, at-your-own-pace, Motivational Interviewing Introductory Course

Training in essential skills like Motivational Interviewing should be inexpensive, easily accessible, and fun, (especially in the age of Covid). That's why I developed this course that you can take in the convenience of your own home or office. All of the core skills, processes, and techniques of MI are covered in animated videos and exercises. There are 2 zoom meetings scheduled with the instructor for questions, supervised practice, and feedback. This course meets the qualifications for 15 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, is approved for 15 hours of credit for addiction counselors by CCAPP,  and for psychologists by the California Psychological Association.

We have adapted our usual two-day workshop for a virtual tele-conferencing format to provide participants with an opportunity to explore creative ways of integrating these approaches into an effective therapeutic intervention -- when to use, when not to use Motivational Interviewing. Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, evidence-based, directive method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence.
