This training explores MI strategies that help evoke the motivations of your clients so they are more likely to make decisions about making changes.
This training session will focus on clinical interviewing skills. Topics will include: unique listening and interviewing skills, how to identify and explore client ambivalence, how to respond to resistance, and how to identify and respond to client change-talk. Participants will also develop practice and learning strategies to further develop Motivational Interviewing skills. This is part of a WIOA-certified program.
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a conversation style that supports change in a manner congruent with a person’s own values and concerns using collaborative, goal-orientated methods of communication. This introduction covers the spirit, core skills and processes of MI, as well as the most current research of MI use and effective practice. Professionals from a wide array of helping roles such as education, dental care, addictions, healthcare, social services and counseling can benefit from learning MI.

Whether you are new to Motivational Interviewing, or have already some knowledge or experience of using it in your work, this progressing seminar series will support you and enhance your existing helping interventions. It will also introduce you to understanding and integrating the essential elements of good MI practice.
This workshop is a fast-paced and highly interactive Motivational Interviewing (MI) Fundamentals experience. The course will be facilitated virtually through the use of whole group experience and smaller, focused breakout room design. As a result of this workshop, you will have a solid foundation to continue to build your MI skill set!
