Motivational Interviewing: The Basics

This is an online course with four meetings:

Oct. 21 & 22, 12 - 3 p.m.

Oct. 28 & 29: 12 - 2: 30 p.m.

Motivational Interviewing is a particular way of talking with people about change and growth to strengthen their own motivation and commitment.

After orientation to the underlying spirit, structure, and principles of Motivational Interviewing, practical exercises will help participants strengthen empathy skills, recognize and amplify change talk, and roll with resistance.

What to expect from this 2 day course:

 A variety of learning methods are used in a supportive learning  environment, reinforced by a strong evidence base and real life examples.  There are lots of opportunities to explore the relevance of this approach to your own practice.

·         Reflect on the common ways of trying to motivate clients and explore why these ways often do not work

MI Basics (5) - Fixing, Helping, Giving Advice and Getting Triggered

The hardest part about a good Reflection is the urge to 'fix,' 'help,' or give advice. These are all form of getting triggered. This workshop will help us understand and quiet that pesky ego that loves to be so clever!

Foundations in MI (4 hours each): 9/9/24, 9/16/24, & 9/23/24 10AM-2PM CT

This is a 4-session training course. Each session will be 4 hours for a total of 12 hours of training time. In this training, you will learn practical application of foundational MI concepts and approaches that you can implement immediately. These approaches assist in efficiently and effectively developing rapport, meeting the participant/client where they are, and supporting mandated and voluntary participants/clients toward behavior change.
