MI Day One.: Relational Aspects.

This first day of the training covers the foundation of MI - the spirit, OARS,  and skills to be able to engage with the client or staff member.  The spirit and these skills are also essential to helping the client choose a focus for the work.  Reflective listening helps engage the client into a therapeutic relationship.  You will leave this first day of training being able to reflectively listen.  The first two of the four tasks - engaging and focusing - are covered in this day as well.

Introduction to Motivational Interviewing 13-Hour Training | 2 Days | In-Person

This two-day, 13-hour introductory training offers care managers a grounded foundation in Motivational Interviewing: what it is, why it works, and how to actually use it. Designed for practitioners with some awareness of MI but little to no formal training, this course moves beyond surface-level familiarity and into the real skills behind effective, collaborative practice.

During this four-week online workshop, participants will learn: the fundamentals of motivational interviewing, the core OARS strategies of the motivational interviewing process, ways to identify and elicit change talk, as well as strategies for exploring and resolving ambivalence. The learning process is varied across several modalities, to maximize your opportunity to familiarize yourself with motivational interviewing as it can be applied in your practice.

This two-day training will discuss an effective approach in the treatment of challenging clients, and provide participants with an opportunity to explore creative ways of integrating these approaches into an effective therapeutic intervention -- when to use, when not to use Motivational Interviewing. Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, evidence-based, directive method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence.
