This 1-day workshop aims to consolidate learning, deepen skills acquisition and increase understanding of using Motivational Interviewing in practice. Participants attending this workshop level will have undertaken an introductory training previously.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a communication method increasingly used within health care settings. The skills employed can also be used in a broad range of context such as rehabilitation, pain management, health care, criminal justice, education, and addiction counselling.

This workshop is for professionals who already practice MI skills in their work. Participants in this training will have the opportunity to discuss their clinical challenges, to receive feedback on their skills from peer learners, and to find one’s own voice within the style of Motivational Interviewing.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a well-established, evidence-based practice for addressing a range of clinical problems across multiple settings and systems. This 40-hour certificate course offers participants an opportunity to develop competencies in MI practice. Course design includes highly interactive seminars, workbook readings, written assignments, and fidelity reviews of practice samples with performance-based feedback. Throughout the course, you will be observing, practicing, and applying person-centered MI skills of: Engaging, Focusing, Evoking, and Planning.

Motivational Interviewing: Advancing the Practice

Motivational Interviewing (MI), first described by William Miller (1983), and later elaborated in the classic book—Motivational Interviewing: Preparing People for Change (1991, 2002, 2014)—offers a practical, evidence-based approach for supporting clients in making and sustaining healthy behavior changes.

The Intermediate/Advanced Motivational Interviewing Workshop[1] [16 hours] is aimed at the post graduate level for practicing psychologists and other licensed mental health providers as well as graduate students.

The Intermediate/Advanced Motivational Interviewing Workshop[1] [16 hours] is aimed at the post graduate level for practicing psychologists and other licensed mental health providers as well as graduate students. The Intermediate/Advanced Motivational Interviewing Workshop combines didactic materials, observational learning, large group and small group discussions, with dyadic, triadic, and group practice to help attendees build and deepen their previous MI knowledge/proficiency.

Step 3 motivational interviewing (advanced)~~This 3 day course is run in association with the Gestalt centre in London. It aims to give participants who have already completed introductory and intermediate courses on motivational interviewing the opportunity to develop the effective use of their skills in their everyday practice and to receive a certificate of competence in MI.Prospective participants will be expected to show evidence of attendance at Step 1 and 2 training before attending Step 3.. The workshop is taught by 2 highly experienced trainers and restricted to 18 participants.
