Advancing Skills in Motivational Interviewing

This one day workshop will help participants build on Motivational Interviewing (MI) foundations toward increasing skillfulness. The session will focus specifically on practicing the selective and differential use of reflective listening for softening sustain talk and cultivating change talk.

Learning Objectives:

After this workshop participants will be able to:

respond effectively to sustain talk

cultivate change talk

identify strategies for responding to discord

This training , which has a prerequisite of at least four hours of Motivational-Interviewing training, will discuss further this effective approach in the treatment of substance abuse, dual diagnosis, and other challenging symptoms and provide participants with an opportunity to explore creative ways of integrating these approaches into an effective therapeutic intervention. During this one-day workshop, participants will be offered a brief review, and practice of, Motivational Interviewing spirit and some basic skills, and an overview of what's important.

This training reviews core concepts and skills of MI, foundation counseling, and communication skills that can be used by clinical or non-clinical professionals. Advanced MI concepts introduced after building solid foundation of introductory and intermediate skills.

Motivational Interviewing: Advanced Practices

This workshop is for professionals who already practice MI skills in their work. Participants in this training will have the opportunity to discuss their clinical challenges, to receive feedback on their skills from peer learners, and to find one’s own voice within the style of Motivational Interviewing.  The agenda is planned as a full day of practice.
