Introductory to Key Motivational Interviewing (MI) concepts. MI is a collaborative conversation style for strengthening a person’s own motivation and commitment to change.

In this 6-hour instructor-led workshop, participants will take part via a live webinar format (Zoom), watch videos, and engage in experiential exercises.

In this Introduction to Key Motivational Interviewing (MI) Concepts, participants will:

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based therapeutic approach for therapists and non-therapist direct care staff. Learn practical application of foundational MI concepts and approaches that you can implement immediately. These approaches assist in efficiently and effectively developing rapport, meeting the participant where they are, and supporting mandated and voluntary participants toward behavior change.

This class will introduce participants to Motivational Interviewing (MI) theory and practice.  Participants will learn about the fundamentals of MI including understanding ambivalence, the MI Spirit, and how we can best support others considering change.  This workshop will include ample opportuities for topic discussion and practicing refelctive listening, developing focus, and recognizing, evoking, and responding to a person’s “change talk”.   Visit our website to learn more and register!  

We have adapted our usual two-day workshop for a virtual tele-conferencing format to provide participants with an opportunity to explore creative ways of integrating these approaches into an effective therapeutic intervention -- when to use, when not to use Motivational Interviewing. Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, evidence-based, directive method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence.

During this four-week online workshop, participants will learn: the fundamentals of motivational interviewing, the core OARS strategies of the motivational interviewing process, ways to identify and elicit change talk, as well as strategies for exploring and resolving ambivalence. The learning process is varied across several modalities, to maximize your opportunity to familiarize yourself with motivational interviewing as it can be applied in your practice.
