Motivational Interviewing Intermediate Level Course

This course is open to people who have a sufficient degree of theoretical knowledge and a practical experience of applying M.I. In the Intermediate course participants will expand on theoretical principals, deepen understanding, increase technique range and develop skill base to progress competency.

Course has been awarded 12 CPD hours by The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland.

MI: Deepening Your Skills

 Full-Day - Foundational Skills of Motivational Interviewing – Part I

Motivational Interviewing (MI), first described by William Miller (1983), and later elaborated in the classic book—Motivational Interviewing: Preparing People for Change (1991, 2002, 2014)—offers a practical, evidence-based approach for supporting clients in making and sustaining healthy behavior changes. 

This full-day, in-person training will provide you with a solid understanding of the basics of MI and practical skills to continue your own growth.

Motivational Interviewing 2-Day Training

This is a MI Skill Building experience that learners can immediately use upon returning to work. This training is an educational experience in learning motivational Interviewing to fidelity in a fun learning environment. This MI training is being conducted at the beautiful Graceland University in Independence, Missouri.

This class is designed for those who have learned the fundamentals of MI and practiced it over time, and now are seeking a more advanced training in MI. These classes will typically have fourteen to sixteen hours of training contact time and include analysis of audio or video tapes, more demonstration and practice exercises, and less didactic material. One key element of advanced training is on differentiating change talk from commitment language, and learning how to elicit and shape the two.

This one-day workshop will help practitioners who have a basic foundation in MI continue to hone their skills. Participants will engage in practice opportunities, real play exercises and receive immediate feedback. This workshop is for anyone who is looking to improve their MI skills and advance their practice.

Two-Day In-House Motivational Interviewing Training with Dr. Jonathan Fader

Who is this training designed for?

~~This interactive workshop seeks to build the skills of practitioners who have already learned the fundamentals of MI and are interested in further expanding their proficiency.  The workshop will review the traps that practitioners can fall into that result in discord and sustain talk, while further augmenting the empathic skills of reflective listening and refining the understanding of the four processes of MI.  The participants will have an opportunity to practice complex reflections and expand the ways to respond to change talk to maximize the commitment to change.  

Motivational interviewing is a form of collaborative conversation for strengthening a person's own motivation and commitment to change. It is a person-centered counseling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change by paying particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen an Individual's motivation for and movement toward a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person's own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.
