Dr. Melanie Bean is a licensed clinical psychologist with significant expertise in Motivational Interviewing. She received her doctorate in counseling psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society to implement and evaluate motivational interviewing treatments across populations and target behaviors, with a focus on applying MI to pediatric and adult obesity trials, and is well-published in this scientific area. As part of these endeavors, Dr. Bean has conducted rigorous MI trainings of interventionists, and has maintained excellent treatment fidelity throughout the duration of these trials. Dr. Bean is a member of MINT, the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, and regularly conducts MI trainings and clinical supervision and coaching to trainees to help develop, maintain and enhance motivational interviewing competency. Dr. Bean’s MI trainees have included participants from diverse fields including: counseling and mental health (e.g., psychology, social work, pastoral counseling), healthcare (addictions, pharmacy, medicine, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing, dietetics), education, among others. Dr. Bean is available for MI training and coaching, with particular expertise applying MI to healthcare settings.
