Motivational interviewing is beginning to gain popularity within the school counseling community, but it can feel like a daunting task to incorporate into one’s practice. This 2 hour presentation and training is designed to give an overview to those people interested in incorporating MI in the school setting, as well as starting to practice what conversations through the spirit of MI might look like. Attendees will leave this session with a better understanding of what MI is and how to begin to incorporate it with their own practice.
We have adapted our usual one-day workshop for a virtual tele-conferencing format of two four-hour training sessions. We will explore this effective approach in the treatment of substance abuse, dual diagnosis, and other challenging symptoms and provide participants with an opportunity to explore creative ways of integrating these approaches into an effective therapeutic intervention. Participants will be offered a brief review, and practice of, Motivational Interviewing spirit and some basic skills, and an overview of what's important.

Teaching Motivational Interviewing is an eighteen-hour workshop offered in six sections, designed to enable and empower participants to teach motivational interviewing (MI) in their own professional settings. Ideal for MI-fluent professionals who seek to train and coach MI among their peers, this training will provide participants with a plethora of resources to develop their own MI training materials and will support them to practice presenting those materials in a manner consistent with good MI practice.
