I am a clinical psychologist in San Diego, California. I teach motivational interviewing for health care professionals of all kinds including psychologists, physicians, social workers, MFTs, addictions specialists, case managers, counselors, dietitians, and others. I provide live as well as online trainings. I am an approved CE provider for psychologists, California licensed social workers and marriage/family therapists.
Success in psychotherapy, for both client and counselor, requires a certain level of motivation. Most clients approach therapy, or any kind of change counseling, actually, with ambivalence or less motivation than is necessary to be successful. Motivational Interviewing teaches counselors to resolve client ambivalence and help create enough motivation for client's to stick with the counselor long enough to be successful. Learning this fact, and the specific techniques and strategies of MI, changed my life. I became more successful and less stressed as my clients achieved healthy behavior change more easily. Since 2006, I have been sharing what I learned with my students and participants in my workshops in the hopes that they too will become more effective and efficient change agents.
