Trainer Statement

I currently serve as a Trainer and Consultant for the VA Motivational Interviewing Training Program, one of the national evidence-based psychotherapy (EBP) dissemination programs in the Department of Veterans Affairs.  Provide individual and group consultation over the course of 4-6 months to small groups of VA clinicians, utilizing an evidence-based model of training designed to facilitate enduring basic competency in delivering Motivational Interviewing. Current training consultation model is entirely virtual. Feedback to clinicians based on the coding of audio-recorded sessions using the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) 4.2 coding system. Also assist with training workshops for VA licensed independent practitioners learning MI, and for new consultants.  Previously received supervision, support, and training in this role by Paula Wilbourne, PhD (Director of VA MI Training Program), Jennifer Manuel, PhD, Michelle Drapkin, PhD (Director of VA Motivational Enhancement Therapy Program).  Currently work with national MI/MET program coordinator Jennifer Runnals, PhD, and MI/MET Administrator, Christopher de Beer, LCSW.

I also provide MI training and consultation for VA psychology predoctoral interns, and also teach a seminar on Motivational Interviewing to psychiatry residents at the UC Davis School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
