Dr. DeWitt is a Clinical Psychologist. She is a staff member at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Brooklyn and the founder of DeWitt Psychological Services. She has been a national Motivational Interviewing and Motivational Enhancement consultant within the Veterans Affairs Hospital System for the last 5 years. Dr. DeWitt conducts local and national trainings on Motivational Interviewing, Multicultural Awareness and Patient Centered Care practices for psychology graduate students, integrated primary care staff and mental health professionals. She also travels within the tri-state area providing organizational teambuilding services.
Dr. DeWitt completed her doctoral degree in Clincal Psychology with a health emphasis at Ferkauf Graduate School of Yeshiva University in New York City. She has worked extensively in the fields of chronic disease managment and integrated primary care. She has advanced training in faciliation services through the National Center for Organizational Development and Emotionally Focused Couples therapy. Dr. DeWitt specializes in and is commited to facilitating healthy, sustainable changes for individuals and couples along with business partnerships and companies.
Dr. DeWitt describes feeling the tug of Motivational Interviewing back in 2003 when working with a patient struggling to manage their diabetes. She attended a training led by Dr. Chris Dunn and felt her course begin to shift. His pole vaulting stories were poignant and funny and there was something much more; this natural draw to how change happens. The greatest gift of her career has been futher entering the Motivational Interviewing community and having the priveledge to be a member of MINT. Motivational Interviewing has changed the way she works and trains, consults and supervises and ultimately, how she is in the world.
Dr. DeWitt believes that learning should be fun, interactive, engaged and model the experience we are learning to create. It should safely take learners outside their comfort zone where they can try out new things. Dr. DeWitt incorporates multiple learning modalities in order to connect with varying learning styles and faciliate engagement and learning sustainability. She is committed to promoting organizational development, sustainability and ongoing consultation.
