I am a full-time prison chaplain and an ordained minister practicing professionally in Washington and Oregon since 2006. Since 2016, I have served as a chaplain in both federal hospitals and state correctional facilities, focusing my ministry on incarcerated youth struggling with addiction, grief and loss, moral injury, and mental health challenges.
My commitment to Motivational Interviewing (MI) stems from its powerful alignment with spiritual direction principles, emphasizing collaboration and honoring autonomy. I utilize MI daily in my clinical and pastoral work and provide training in MI to a diverse audience, including correctional staff, ministers, personal trainers, and counselors.
I am deeply focused on helping grow the use of MI in Interfaith Spiritual Direction for chaplains and other ministers. I strive to enhance MI fidelity in pastoral care settings by emphasizing the development of basic MI skills and the crucial application of MI Spirit in contexts of moral injury. I welcome collaboration and the sharing of resources with MINT members who are working across disciplines.
I am a MINT Trainer and an ordained Prison Chaplain with over 15 years of professional ministry experience and over 10 years of Motivational Interviewing experience. Since 2016, I have served as the State Chaplain for the incarcerated youth of Oregon.
My extensive experience working with high-risk youth and individuals struggling with moral injury, addiction, gang affiliation, and co-occurring disorders provides a rich clinical foundation for my MI training.
