Scott T. Walters, Ph.D., is Regents Professor of Health Behavior and Health Systems at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. As a researcher and educator, his work blends motivational interviewing research, training, and practice. His current projects are testing ways to improve cancer risk screening; vocational success for veterans with a criminal history; and substance use interventions for adolescents, young adults, people with intellectual disabilities, and people who are homeless. He also serves as the Steering Committee Chair for the HEALing Communities Study, which is developing a national model to address the opioid crisis. In addition to research, he has conducted numerous trainings for criminal justice workers, counselors, and healthcare professionals, and served as a consultant to develop Internet and mobile interventions for a variety of health behaviors. In the past 15 years, he has conducted more than 200 trainings, ranging from brief overviews to extended coaching and feedback.
