I am the Founder and Executive Director of Noeticus Counseling Center and Training Institute® in Denver, Colorado, USA and also serve as the Training Director for the Noeticus Center for Professional Development™ (NCPD). I have been a psychotherapist since 1993, a counselor educator and clinical supervisor since 1996, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) with the National Board for Certified Counselor’s (NBCC) affiliate, the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) since 2008. I have served as core faculty at Naropa University in the Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology and also as adjunct faculty at Front Range Community College, Prescott College, Regis University, University of Colorado Denver, and Walden University.
My professional background includes extensive work with graduate and post-graduate education, particularly in the areas of experiential learning, contemplative education, diversity and multiculturalism, social and restorative justice, creative process work, expressive arts therapies, body-centered psychotherapy, movement observation, clinical assessment, addiction counselor training, complex trauma, and systemic therapy. Other areas of professional experience include critical care nursing, hospice nursing, inpatient and residential psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment, victim advocacy work, domestic violence and sexual offender treatment, and private practice.
I love teaching, training, and using Motivational Interviewing (MI) and have gone through the additional voluntary process of becoming a MINT Certified Trainer. I'm delighted you are interested in learning more about MI and sincerely look forward to discussing how I might help you learn more about it or help you bring it to your team or organization. I was first introduced to MI in the early 1990s when I was working as a detox counselor. In 2004, I founded a community-based, not-for-profit counseling center based on foundational principles of trauma-informed care, third-wave CBT modalities such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy® (DBT®) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and the spirit and principles of MI. I have been training addiction counselors, mental health professionals, health care professionals, educators, and human resources managers in MI since 2010 and bring all of my background and training in adult learning, experiential education, and evidence-based practice into my trainings and workshops. I am approved by the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) to teach both the 3-day basic Motivational Interviewing training and the two-day Advanced Motivational Interviewing training required for the Certified/Licensed Addiction Counselor credential in Colorado.
