I am a Professor at the Center for Children and Families at Florida International University where I direct the S.E.L.F.-Regulation Lab (http://self-regulationlab.fiu.edu). My research focuses on the role of children’s self-regulation as it pertains to School Readiness, Early Intervention, Learning, and Fitness (S.E.L.F.). A large portion of my work focuses on developing and examining early interventions (e.g., parent training) that can target children’s self-regulation skills and subsequent adaptive outcomes. My work has been supported by both federal grants (IES, NIMH, NIDDK) and local agencies. Clinically, I train doctoral and master's level clinicians yearly in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and have found it particularly helpful to integrate Motivational Interviewing as part of such training.
