Trainer Statement

A licensed social worker and MI Trainer with a strong passion for child & youth development, Michael’s background is in Human Development, Psychology, and Education. Since 2005, Michael has worked for Massachusetts MENTOR, a partner of Sevita Health (formerly The Mentor Network) – a leading national home and community-based human services provider. In his role as Training and Development Manager at MENTOR, Michael is responsible for providing professional training and skill development for therapeutic foster parents across the Commonwealth, along with the dedicated professional staff who support them.

Since 2000, Michael has been supporting children and youth with disabilities as an experienced Educational Advocate and Special Education Surrogate Parent, passionately advocating for students with disabilities to receive the best possible educational outcomes. As an appointed Guardian ad litem through the Barnstable Juvenile Court, Michael represents students and their families for complex cases involving special education.

Actively involved in the Cape Cod community, Michael is a certified prevention educator through the Cape & Islands Enough Abuse Campaign to prevent child sexual abuse. He currently serves as the Board Chair of The Cape Cod Neighborhood Support Coalition, a Community Connections initiative of the Massachusetts Department of Children & Families. Michael also serves as Board Chair for We Thrive/Cape & Islands Gay & Straight Youth Alliance; he is an active member of the Cape & Islands Workforce Board’s Youth Council, and previously served a 3-year term as Vice-Chair/Commissioner for the Barnstable County Human Rights Commission.

Michael lives in South Yarmouth on Cape Cod – his home town – with his partner, three children, and two cats.
