More About Me

About Me

Mary completed her MINT training of trainers in 2008, and  she completed the MIA-STEP program for supervision of motivational interviewing in 2010. These two trainings provide expertise in offering trainings to groups (MINT TNT) as well as supervision to individuals - tape review and coaching - (MIA-STEP) to gain competence in MI. Mary earned her PhD at Oregon State University in counseling. Her original research includes using motivational interviewing for relationship wellness checkups (programs designed to prevent relationship distress). Mary completed  her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at Naropa University and she holds post-graduate certificates in Marriage and Family Therapy and Sex Therapy, with a specialization in GRSM couples and families.

Mary combiners her experience with motivational interviewing, with additional areas of interest. She has been a Board Certified Clinical Sexologist with the American Board of Sexology since 2006, and she is certified with AASECT (the American Association of Sex Educations, Counselors, and Therapists. Mary has been working as a counselor - starting with peer counseling then through her MA and PhD programs, since 1995. She has been an educator since 2003. She is passionate about motivational interviewing for all levels from beginning counseling students to advanced practitioners.
