I am an Addiction Counsellor by profession and have been working in the field of Addictions & Mental Health since 2001 after having worked in corrections both provincially and federally. I develop and facilitate groups and also work individually with clients whose life challenges intersect with justice, mental health, and addictions. The use of MI as a trauma-informed care approach in my client work has been invaluable.
I have been doing training and coaching in MI since 2013 and became a member of MINT in 2017.
Motivational Interviewing has shaped who I have become as a practitioner, co-worker, trainer, and coach. It has provided me with the tools to empower those I work with and train to listen differently, engage with compassion, and partner for progress not perfection within a person-centred approach. I am very interested in mindfulness and adult learning principles and endeavour to incorporate elements of both in any training/coaching I offer to make it meaningful, practical, and transferable to the work environment.
