More About Me

About Me

Currently, I am a clinical social worker in Palliative Care at the UCSF Medical Center where I work with patients with serious illness and their families as they make a variety of decisions.

From 2005-2021, I was a lecturer and the Director of Field Education at the UC Berkeley School of Social Welfare.  I taught a skills-based, semester-long course in motivational interviewing during which MSW students complete three audiotaped samples that are coded using the MITI (Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity Scale).

Prior to this appointment, I was the Clinical Social Work Supervisor at the UCSF Trauma Recovery and Rape Treatment Center (1999-2005) and the Director of Client and Advocacy Services at Community United Against Violence (1991-1991) where I work with trauma-exposed adults and their families.

I attended the Training for New Trainers in San Diego, California, United States in 2010. I have provided motivational training, coaching, and consultation to child welfare agencies, health care systems, mental health care systems, nonprofit organizations, and case managers.

Trainer Statement

I enjoy working with systems of care (health, mental health, nonprofit, and child welfare) to help them learn, adapt, and practice with fidelity.  I am a creative trainer who uses multiple modalities (visual, audio, kinesthetic, cognitive, and emotional) to engage the audience and promote proficiency.  I have worked with large systems of care over several year periods to implement motivational interviewing including large introductory trainings, trainings for supervisors, advanced level trainings, and then coaching circles including live supervision or audiotaped submissions which are coded for proficiency using  the integrity scale (MITI).
