Dr. Santa Ana is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Addiction Sciences Division, at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and a Research Health Scientist at the Charleston VA Medical Center. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York, and completed her clinical internship at the Medical University of South Carolina and her postdoctoral fellowship in Advanced Psychiatry and Psychology through the Mental Illness Research, Education & Clinical Center (MIRECC) at Yale University School of Medicine and West Haven VAMC, CT. Dr. Santa Ana has over 15 years experience in the clinical application of motivational interviewing for patients and she is an expert trainer in MI and Group MI for health care providers, including nurses, social workers, psychologists, addiction therapists, and psychiatrists. She has received federal funding as Principal Investigator on several randomized controlled trials investigating MI and group MI with Veteran and civilian populations, primarily with alcohol and poly-substance dependence, and she is published in the addiction field. Dr. Santa Ana has been an active member of the MINT (Sitges, Spain cohort) since 2009.
