I am Diana Mejia, a dedicated professional with a background in Motivational Interviewing (MI). I have acquired knowledge and expertise in MI through a diverse range of experiences, particularly in working with a population facing various health and environmental risks, often immersed in poverty, legal issues, and social conflicts. These individuals often grapple with profound dissatisfaction in their lives. MI, as a strategy, enables me to recognize their humanity, helping them learn and take control of their own behavior. Through MI, they uncover their own solutions to address their problems, making it a valuable tool for understanding the challenges of behavioral change.
My unwavering dedication to MI and addiction treatment fuels my commitment to making a positive impact in this field.
My journey into MI began during my master's degree program, where I specialized in addiction psychology. My initial exposure to MI occurred in a workshop led by Leticia Echeverria, where we delved into the MI model for alcohol use developed by Mark Sobell and Linda Sobell. My participation in pioneering research at the National Institute of Psychiatric Juan Ramon de la Fuente, in collaboration with NIDA, further refined my MI skills.
Presently, I am a wholehearted, full-time professor and researcher at the Sonora Institute of Technology. To continually enhance my expertise, I have pursued online MI courses with distinguished experts such as Miller, Moyers, and Rollnick on the Psychwire platform.
