I am a Counsellor / Psychotherapist and Clinical member of PACFA (Psychotherapist and Counsellors Federation of Australia) & PACFA Accredited Supervisor. I am also an Accredited Practising Dietitian with over 20 years’ experience in Clinical Dietetics.
The first decade or so of my career I worked in Clinical Dietetics in various hospital settings focusing primarily on chronic disease care. I now manage a specialist private practice in Sydney, first opened in 2004 . My practice focuses on assisting adults suffering with chronic yo-yo dieting, weight concern, disordered eating and eating disorders. I have been training health professionals in client centred counselling skills since 2013 and since becoming a member of MINT in 2015 I have been specialising further to train MI.
Motivational Interviewing is a foundational communication style for my practice as it equips me to ethically, effectively and compassionately assist my clients who typically feel ambivalent about the behaviour changes they are considering in order to improve their health. Teaching MI to other Health Practitioners and seeing how it impacts their confidence and enjoyment of their chosen profession is work that really matters to me and I thoroughly enjoy! I put a great deal of effort into keeping my training fun, interactive, experiential and relevant.
In addition to training I publish a seasonal e-newsletter titled Practice Pavestones for health professionals interested in building a client centred and MI orientation into their practice. I also provide clinical supervision and mentoring for skill integration and professional development. In 2021 I expanded my training service to include training for Dietitians in Clinical Supervision and I founded DSRA Dietitian Supervision Resources Australia www.dsra.com.au.
My trainees span a variety of disciplines including GPs, Practice Nurses, Diabetes Educators, Psychologists, Counsellors, Social Workers, Occuptaional Therapists, Exercise Physiologists and Dietitians. You can read more about my service and newsletter on my website www.taramacgregor.com.au
