Pittsburgh, PA USA Training Trainers

The Training Point is a three-day course designed to enhance knowledge and abilities in facilitating trainings in general and this offering will be focused on participants who have background knowledge and skills of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and/or Screening, Brief Intervention & Referral to Treatment (SBIRT).  The Training Point is grounded in adult education theory and practice, and as such is learner-centered, experiential, holistic, authentic, expressive, reflective, social, collaborative, democratic, cognitive, developmental, constructivist, and challenging (see Zemelman, Daniels & Hyde, 1998, p. 8).

The first two days of the course provides a collaborative learning environment where participants engage in sharing and practicing training skills.  The last day of the training is dedicated to the participants utilizing what they have learned by providing a brief MI or SBIRT teach-back with a co-facilitator. You will be provided the opportunity to complete self-assessment,  & receive feedback from trainers and participants. Participants focus on the various components that create successful training experiences: the learners, the environment, the materials, and the trainer.  Topics covered include learning and training styles, adult learning principles, facilitation and presentation skills.

The Point of the course is best summarized by comments from former participants:  “The Training Point was one of those experiences that you have in your career that inspire, motivate, and teach you something that sticks for life. Truly amazing.”  "This was the most meaningful and rich training I've been to so far.  Not only did I learn from the facilitators but also from the participants.  A must have training for anyone who is a trainer on any level."
