Facilitator-Led Online Introductory

Basic Motivational Interviewing (up to 25 participants)

Motivational interviewing (MI) is a client-centered, evidence-based, goal-oriented method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence with the individual. This active, skill-building workshop provides participants with knowledge of the spirit, micro skills, and strategies of the model, and provides opportunities to practice the approach. Participants will complete the workshop with a good understanding of MI, and are encouraged to take the Intermediate and Advanced MI workshops to develop proficiency in this method. This workshop will be dynamic and interactive, and participants should expect to engage with video enabled and be ready to practice the skills discussed.

The Basic Motivational Interviewing workshop is six hours in length, and is delivered via the Zoom platform over two days. Each session is three hours and fifteen minutes in length to allow for a break, and will run from 1pm to 4:15pm Eastern Standard Time (EST). This course is approved for continuing education credit by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), and the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC). Participants must attend both sessions in their entirety and complete a course evaluation to receive a certificate of completion and continuing education credit, if applicable.
