Virtual Motivational Interviewing Spirt, Skills and Practice

Saturday 5/15/2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Are you struggling with engaging others?  Are you really listening to their needs?  Are people excited to come back and see you?

Do you have more conflict than connection?    Do you want to increase your level of compassion?

Motivational Interviewing is a person centered, evidenced based collaborative conversation style to engage individuals and strengthen one’s own motivation to change.

In this six-hour live (zoom) training participants will engage in interactive and experiential exercise to learn how to use affirmations, reflections, all in the Spirit of MI, to assist others in navigating the journey of change in recovery.  Working with people in recovery when done with compassion, good listening skills and partnership is an asset to purposefully implementing MI.

The Spirit of MI comes from a perspective that the person is the expert in their own life, and already has the answers they need. We just help them find those answers.

In this training you will learn:

MI Spirit - PACE - Partnership, Acceptance, Compassion, Evocation

MI Skills - OARS - Open-ended Questions, Affirmations, Reflections, Summaries

Change Talk - DARN-CAT- Desire, Ability, Reasons, Need, Commitment, Actuation, Taking Steps

Through the use of interactive activities, you will practice these skills, as you learn to identify and emphasize change talk, and minimize sustain talk. You will dive deep into each of these skill areas to learn specific techniques to help the person you are working with get clarity. This is a very practical training that emphasizes the practice of the skills and the integration of MI conversationally.
