Membership in the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) indicates that a trainer has completed a MINT approved Training of New Trainers (TNT) workshop and is part of an international professional community committed to high‑quality Motivational Interviewing training. MINT membership itself is not a certification of training competence, nor does it serve as an endorsement or quality guarantee for any individual trainer. MINT membership represents a developmental pathway toward becoming a competent MI trainer. All MINT members are expected to be engaged in advancing their MI knowledge and practice. MINT members who are available for trainings can be identified in the Trainers/MINT Members section
In addition to general membership, MINT offers a MINT Certified Trainer Program, a voluntary professional development pathway in which MINT members undergo a formal assessment of their MI training skills to demonstrate a high level of competence in MI training. MINT members who successfully complete this process are designated MINT Certified Motivational Interviewing Trainers and are listed publicly on the MINT website. MINT Certified Trainers can be identified in the MINT Certified Trainers section.
Regardless of whether a trainer is a general MINT member or a MINT Certified Trainer, organizations and individuals seeking MI training should conduct their own due diligence to determine which trainer best fits their needs. This includes:
-
Reviewing the trainer’s background and areas of specialization to ensure alignment with your context and goals.
-
Requesting examples of previous training, including curriculum, methods, or sample materials.
-
Checking references, feedback, or reviews from prior clients or participants.
-
Discussing expectations, logistics, and training approaches to ensure fit with your organization’s culture, population, and desired outcomes.
Finding the right trainer is essential for high‑quality learning and effective implementation of Motivational Interviewing. We encourage you to explore MINT’s trainer listings - both general members and MINT Certified Trainers - and connect directly with trainers to determine who best aligns with your organization’s needs.
