During this four-week online workshop, participants will learn: the fundamentals of motivational interviewing, the core OARS strategies of the motivational interviewing process, ways to identify and elicit change talk, as well as strategies for exploring and resolving ambivalence. The learning process is varied across several modalities, to maximize your opportunity to familiarize yourself with motivational interviewing as it can be applied in your practice.

Using Motivational Interviewing for Tobacco Cessation
Many people who use tobacco get stuck in ambivalence when they consider quitting. This class
will use MI strategies and the “Clinical Practice Guideline: Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence:
2008 Update” to help people who currently struggle with nicotine addiction.

In a full-day introductory workshop, participants will learn the basic concepts related to Motivational Interviewing: Evocation, compassion, partnership, acceptance. Special attention will be paid to naming and describing the skills of Motivational Interviewing: Open ended questioning, affirming, reflective listening, and summarizing. Participants who complete the introductory training generally receive the knowledge necessary to talk about Motivational Interviewing with others, and will usually leave with a new set of skills to begin practicing individually.
