Introduction to Motivational Interviewing Training

Introduction to Motivational Interviewing

Introductory to Key Motivational Interviewing (MI) concepts. MI is a collaborative conversation style for strengthening a person’s own motivation and commitment to change.

In this 6-hour instructor-led workshop, participants will take part via a live webinar format (Zoom), watch videos, and engage in experiential exercises.

In this Introduction to Key Motivational Interviewing (MI) Concepts, participants will:

Motivational Interviewing (MI), first described by William Miller (1983), and later elaborated in the classic book—Motivational Interviewing: Preparing People for Change (1991, 2002, 2014)—offers a practical, evidence-based approach for supporting clients in making and sustaining healthy behavior changes.  Originally developed in the drug and alcohol field, over 300 clinical trials demonstrate the efficacy of MI across a range of populations, target behaviors, and medical conditions.  In particular, MI has been shown to be especially effective in brief clinical encounters

3-day MI Introductory Intensive

During this four-week online workshop, participants will learn: the fundamentals of motivational interviewing, the core OARS strategies of the motivational interviewing process, ways to identify and elicit change talk, as well as strategies for exploring and resolving ambivalence. The learning process is varied across several modalities, to maximize your opportunity to familiarize yourself with motivational interviewing as it can be applied in your practice.
