Jesse Jonesberg, MSW, LCSW, CPS, is a neurodivergent therapist and social worker and a long-time member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). He came to MI through more than 20 years in community mental health, working with people living with severe and persistent mental illness, where MI’s compassionate, strengths-based, person-centered approach stood out. Through Intrinsic Change, he trains nonprofit and human service teams in Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care, in person in Milwaukee and virtually across Wisconsin. He brings mindfulness, cultural humility and compassion into how he teaches MI.
I train teams in Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care through Intrinsic Change, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Most of my work is with small nonprofits, where the whole team learns together: executive directors, therapists, case managers, peer specialists and front-line staff. I teach MI as a practice-heavy series spaced over a few weeks, so people have time to try the skills between sessions and bring real questions back. I also offer MI for supervisors and leaders, learning communities to keep skills going, and specialty trainings such as MI for groups and neurodivergent MI. I co-teach a UW–Madison Continuing Education course and have presented at the Great Lakes MI Conference and the NASW Wisconsin conference. Outside of work, I’m a dad to two kids, a bully dog and some very hot chili pepper plants.
