I'm an Aussie living and working in New Zealand with a passion for training and group facilitation. I have been facilitating de-escalation trainings for about 25 years, and have also facilitated group facilitation training, MI training (of course) and personal/professional boundaries workshops. I also provide drink/drug/high risk driver education programs.
My MI training is very practical, it begins with conversations about trainee's own experiences of change, as well as how they perceive their clients as an introduction to the Spirit of MI, which really focuses on how important the engagement and relationship building task is. I then focus on the OARS skills and create space for practice in using these to respond to change talk. I do the same for sustain talk. I am a strong believer in the idea that we only learn about, and get better at doing something by doing it. I focus on drawing out the knowledge and skills of the participants in my trainings.
