More About Me

About Me

Ryan Flynn, LCSW, is a social work clinician, supervisor, and trainer based in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. His primary job is county health and human services, supervising counselors and social workers providing generalist intake and assessment. On the side as part of his private practice, he provides telehealth psychotherapy for adults in Pennsylvania and Delaware and has a particular interest in men’s mental health, stress, identity transitions, and relational challenges. His clinical work integrates Motivational Interviewing (MI) with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with an emphasis on helping people navigate ambivalence, clarify values, and move toward meaningful change.

Ryan has experience providing training and consultation to behavioral health and human service professionals, with a focus on relational engagement skills, motivational conversations, and supporting clinicians working with complex or ambivalent clients. He is especially interested in how MI can support work with men who may be hesitant to seek help or who struggle to find language for difficult internal experiences.

In addition to clinical practice and training, Ryan enjoys exploring how MI intersects with broader themes of identity, responsibility, and meaning in adult life. He values collaborative learning and is continually curious about how MI can be applied across different settings and populations.

Trainer Statement

Ryan Flynn, LCSW, is a Motivational Interviewing trainer and clinical social worker with a background in behavioral health and human services. His training work focuses on helping clinicians strengthen relational engagement, deepen their use of MI spirit, and build practical skills for working with ambivalence and resistance in real-world settings.  Ryan is particularly interested in applications of MI in men’s mental health, human service professions, and situations where clients feel stuck between competing responsibilities, expectations, and personal values. His trainings emphasize experiential learning, reflective practice, and creating a collaborative learning environment that mirrors the spirit of MI itself.

Drawing on his clinical work and training experience, Ryan often explores how MI can be integrated with other approaches such as case management and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support meaningful behavior change and values-based action. He enjoys working with interdisciplinary audiences and supporting professionals in translating MI concepts into everyday conversations with clients.
