I work as a Senior Addiction Counsellor with the Health Service Executive Cork Kerry Community Healthcare Addiction Services in the Addiction Services Hubs in North Cork, West Cork and East Cork in Ireland. I coordinate the UCC/HSE Diploma in Substance Misuse and Addiction Studies. I lecture for Munster Technology University, University College Dublin on the Masters in Public Policy. I am an accreditted clinical supervisor and I completed a Professional Doctorate in Implementing Evidence-Based Addiction Treatments 2019.
I have been training people to use MI since 2008 at undergraduate and degree level and have been involved in the National Screening and Brief Interventions for Problem Substance Misuse project as a trainer and member of the implementation group since 2013. My area of practice is working with young people, adults and families who are impacted by substance misuse. I also deliver education and training services within the health and social care sector. The area of research that I am interested in is substance misuse prevention with families and implementing evidence-based practices in substance abuse treatment.
