Ph.D., LPCC, LADAC
The short version:
My first exposure to MI was in the late '90's when taking a course from Terri Moyers, which lead to MINT in 2002. I worked at The Life Link, a Licensed Community Mental Health Center for a bit over 30 years. Embedded in my work was Life Link Training Institute (LLTI) founded in 2013. I work solely for LLTI now.
Besides MI, I have been a trainer for many years in Community Reinfoecement Approach (CRA) and Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), and fully integrate MI into both CRA and CRAFT. Previously, our agency was fortunate to have a SAMHSA demonstration grant to study CRAFT at the community level and was very much different than previous university-led research. This resulted in a Science & Service Award by SAMHSA in 2007. I have traveled extensively in the US and overseas training agencies in these models.
While at The Life Link, the agency had been wonderfully influenced by CASAA at the Univeristy of New Mexico and had been a part of the NIDA Clinical Trials Network from 2000 to 2015. We received the Karst Besterman award by NIDA in 2010 as a Community Treatment Program for extraordinary contribution to the CTN's mission and goals.
LLTI is currently certifiying medical facilities to be able to bill for SBIRT services.
