About Me

Qian Yang is a faculty member at the School of Public Health, Zhejiang University, specializing in the intersection of psychology and social medicine. Her research focuses on social psychology and behavioral patterns in health contexts, with a particular emphasis on cultural psychology. She currently serves as Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in the Department of Social Medicine and Health Affairs Management, Zhejiang University School of Public Health, and holds a joint appointment as Professor at both the International Health Center and the Department of Geriatrics of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University. She also supervises master's and doctoral students in psychology. In addition, she is the Executive Director of the Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Health at the National Institute for Data Science in Health and Medicine, Zhejiang University.

Dr. Yang earned her M.A. in Applied Psychology from Peking University and her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Tsinghua University, with a joint doctoral training program at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2025, she became a Mintie (member-in-training of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, MINT).

Trainer Statement

Qian Yang was among the first cohort of trainees at the Mandarin Proficiency Examination Center, where she completed the introductory, advanced, and intensive Motivational Interviewing (MI) trainings under the mentorship of Tse Ka Wo (Nick). As the first participant to take the certification exam, she successfully obtained TNT qualification. Following this achievement, she was honored to be invited as a distinguished trainee to witness the establishment of the MI Development Center. Building on this foundation, she has integrated MI into her academic research and practice, securing support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. She has also led MI-based interventions combining Positive Psychology and group counseling, delivering trainings for professionals and community-based MI group programs in fourth-tier cities and small counties in Zhejiang, Anhui, and Hubei provinces.
