Phil Welches, PhD maintains an independent practice in consultation and therapy for persons with anxiety, depression, and addiciton problems; and conducts trainings on Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness-Based Sobriety, Person-Centered Treatment Planning, and treatment of co-occurring mental/substance-related disorders. He is past Clinical Director at Gateway Foundation; Psychology Director and Psychology Internship Director at Chicago-Read Mental Health Center; and Director of two non-profit addiction treatment centers. Dr. Welches is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (Illinois), Licensed Psychologist (Michigan), Registered Dual Disorders Professional (Illinois IAODAPCA), and a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers since 2006. He is current President of the Chicago Chapter of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS), and is a past Board Member of the Illinois Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Association (IADDA). Dr. Welches is co-author of Mindfulness-Based Sobriety (Turner, N., Welches, P., and Conti, S., 2014), and is author or co-author of several articles peer reviewed journals on collaborative assessment, therapy and research.
Dr. Welches conducts trainings on the following topics: Motivational Interviewing (introductory through advanced); Motivational Intervieiwng Treatment Integrity (MITI) Coding System; Collaborative Person-Centered Treatment Planning; Co-Occurring Disorders, and Mindfulness-Based Sobriety (that is, addiction recovery curricula using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Relapse Prevention Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing).
