I am a clinical supervisor, therapist, adult educationalist and trainer. My background is in the addictions field originally working as an addiction counsellor helping to develop Employee Assistance Programmes. I received my initial training in Motivational Interviewing in 1993 in the UK and after further training I became a member of MINT after attending the TNT in Malta in 1997. I have completed training in the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI 4.0) coding system at University of Massachusetts Medical School, Centre for Integrated Primary Care, Boston, USA. I am specifically interested in developing outcome measurement systems for behaviour change programmes. I am the developer of the Change Outcome And Impact Measuring (COAIM) system, a client centred assessment, outcome measurement and motivational enhancement instrument. I was privileged to have been chosen to chair the local host committee for the 20th anniversary meeting of MINT, held in Dublin during October 2017.
I hold a pilot's licence and in my leisure time I like nothing better than flying our group's Cirrus SR22 aircraft, it helps to keep me grounded!
I work with a number of government and civil society (voluntary and community) organisations delivering services in the health, substance misuse, criminal justice, social inclusion, labour activation and homelessness areas. I also train practitioners in using Motivational Interviewing to enhance the delivery of Restorative Justice interventions.
