I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with over 25 years of experience in mental health and addictions research at the University of New Mexico. Currently, I work with the University of Washington’s Northwest ATTC, where I support efforts to strengthen the addiction workforce through training, consultation, and the implementation of evidence-based treatment and recovery practices.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in diverse settings—including prisons, schools, treatment centers, and telehealth—experiences that have deepened my appreciation for the adaptability and power of Motivational Interviewing. I remain passionate about all things MI and its ability to create meaningful change across systems and communities.
I have been training in Motivational Interviewing for the past 15 years, working with groups not only in New Mexico but also across the United States and internationally. I love the opportunity to collaborate with diverse communities and settings, and I am especially interested in empathy, change and sustain talk—the “music of language”—and the research base that supports MI. What I enjoy most is helping others explore how MI can deepen connection, inspire change, and strengthen practice in meaningful ways.
