I am a Nurse Specialist in Substance Misuse/Mental Health by training and have spent over three decades working in clinical practice, supervisory and strategic development roles to advance the quality and access to speialist service provision. Motivational Interviewing has been pivotal to how my practice has been shaped as a practitioner, manager, supervisor, advisor and strategic influencer. As a trainer I have been privileged to train practitioners from a wide range of professions in diverse settings and across three continents. The diverse cultures I encounter within teams, organisations , professions, regions and cities helps to keep my practice and training skills sharp and responsive to the needs of patients/clients and practitioners.
I received my training as a MI trainer in Santa Margurita (Italy) in 2001 and I have enjoyed being an active member of MINT ever since, serving as a TNT trainer twice (2005 & 2017) and as a Director/Director Emeritis on the management board as well as helping to organise forums etc. I currently serve as the Chairperson of our MINT UK & Ireland Chapter. My trainings are interactive and tailored to participants specific needs with the training goal to leave participants with a new awareness of the complex factors that influence change along with an increase in skills they can practice and integrate into their everyday conversations with the people they are trying to help.
I now dedicate the majority of my working life to training others as I believe Motivational Interviewing is a vital core skill applicable to all health & social care professionals who engage in conversations with patients/clients regarding issues of behaviour change. I aim to engage in training initiatives that support organisations to succeed in sustainable practice development and which focus on strengthening more effective care by integrating Motivational Interviewing into the culture and daily practice of staff teams.
