Julio has worked within the Juvenile Justice System since 1999. While on active duty and stationed at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twenty-nine Palms, California, Julio started volunteering with the San Bernadino County Juvenile Probation Department. After leaving active duty, Julio worked at Twin Pines Ranch with Riverside County Juvenile Probation Department in California, as a Group Counselor, Senior Drill Instructor and High School Coach. Julio returned to El Paso where he worked with Texas Youth Commission now Texas Juvenile Justice Department at the Shaffer Halfway House in El Paso Texas for eight months as a Juvenile Supervision Officer. Julio has been employed with the El Paso County Juvenile Justice Center since March of 2005 and is currently the Probation Training Officer. Julio is certified in facilitating and training the following; Trauma Informed Care, PREA, Handle with Care, Moral Recognition Therapy, Thinking for Good, Thinking for a Change, Strengthening Families, Foundation Skills for Trainers, a trained Grant Writer. Julio has also been part of the Motivational Interviewing Team since its inception at Juvenile Justice Center in 2007 as a trainer, coder, coach and curriculum development.
In December of 2001, Julio earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from National University in California.
In December 2010, Julio earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Webster’s University in Ft. Bliss, Texas.
