About Me

Combining his experience in community mental health counseling and substance abuse counseling with his training at Loyola University Maryland in the integration of spirituality and psychology, he is currently serving as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among his areas of expertise are anxiety/stress, alcohol & substance abuse/addiction, bereavement (loss/grief), depression, religious/spiritual issues, adjustment issues and life transitions, family & relationship conflicts, self-esteem issues, multicultural/acculturation difficulties, and work/life balance. His therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. He integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion, acceptance, and understanding, he works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to achieving.

In addition to being a psychotherapist, Dr. Rhoades presents at conferences and to professional audiences speaking on the topics of motivational interviewing, ethics, DSM, and burnout.

Dr. Rhoades is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), and an Approved Supervisor in Clinical Professional Counseling in the State of Maryland where he maintains a private practice. He treats a broad range of clients and provides clinical supervision to clinical mental health counseling graduate students and provisionally licensed counselors. Dr. Rhoades’ interest in Motivational Interviewing began in 2000, when he was an intern treating clients with substance use disorders. He has worked on two research studies determining the effectiveness of Motivational Interviewing and has presented on the topic of Motivational Interviewing for over ten years. He is passionate about sharing Motivational Interviewing with others at workshops, clinical supervision, or consulting/coaching.
