Abstract | Evaluated a motivational intervention to encourage lower intake of fat by adolescents. The Dietary Intervention Study in Children (DISC) identified 127 adolescents (aged 13–17 yrs) as candidates for a individually focused motivational intervention to decrease their dietary fat intake. Ss participated in a 7-step intervention model, followed by a session 4–8 wks later. Two wks subsequently, 3 24–hr dietary recalls were collected and compared with dietary recalls collected in the year previous to individual intervention. Results show the mean proportion of calories from fat intake decreased from 27.7% to 25.6%. Self-reported readiness to change increased by approximately 1 point on a 12-step scale.
