An introduction to AMIGA’s six conditions and Ask–Offer–Ask.
How do you carry out your responsibilities when expectations differ or trust has been damaged?
Join Alexander Waitt of AMIGA for a four-hour workshop connecting MI’s ongoing task of engaging with AMIGA’s six conditions for trust and accountability. Engaging is the work of building and sustaining a collaborative relationship. The six conditions help you clarify responsibilities and participation, so you and the other person know what to expect from one another. You’ll use Ask–Offer–Ask, an information-exchange practice within MI, to explore the other person’s perspective, share relevant information, and ask what the other person makes of it.
Bring a work conversation you’re finding difficult. You’ll prepare a conversation plan, rehearse it twice, and use feedback from your peers to revise your approach. You’ll leave with your revised planner and a six-conditions guide to use in your work. This workshop is for you if you work as a supervisor, practice coach, practitioner, or trainer and want to learn AMIGA’s approach.
This workshop introduces AMIGA’s application of these ideas; it is not comprehensive foundational MI training. Completing it satisfies the introductory learning requirement for AMIGA’s trainer pathway. Further preparation, fees, and written teaching authorization are separate.
Learning objectives
By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
- Distinguish MI’s ongoing task of engaging from AMIGA’s six conditions for trust and accountability.
- Identify a condition that needs attention in a difficult professional conversation.
- Use Ask–Offer–Ask to exchange information while clarifying your responsibilities and the other person’s.
- Revise your conversation plan using feedback from both practice rehearsals.

The live Zoom session includes 220 instructional minutes and 20 minutes of breaks. To receive your certificate of completion, attend at least 198 instructional minutes, take part in both rehearsals or an agreed accessible equivalent, and complete your conversation planner.
