Introductory Motivational Interviewing (MI) Training (3CEs)
Exciting, 3 hour training for helping professionals committed to making a true impact in the lives of their clients.
Empower your clients to take an active role in pursuing their desired goals! Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative and goal-oriented approach to conversations about change and growth. When working with clients who express ambivalence about making a change, MI becomes a powerful tool to navigate the complexities of their thoughts and feelings. This training will be facilitated by MINT Trainer, Sarah Gainey, MSW, LISW-CP/S. This is a live virtual event and requires a working microphone and camera to participate. A Zoom link and instructions will be provided prior to the training. You must attend the full session to receive credit; no partial credit will be awarded.
Take this training if you:
- Are new to MI and would like a brief introduction
- Would like a review of MI & skills practice
Participants will:
- Use person-centered “OARS” skills to engage clients in behavior change
- Identify aspects of client speech that indicate whether the behavior change conversation is headed in the right direction or getting off course
- Evoke clients’ own motivations and plans for making desired changes
- Use MI skills and strategies to increase client confidence and commitment to action
