DIMENSIONS: Motivational Interviewing for Behavior Change - Level I (Introductory)

In this two-day intensive training, participants will learn the fundamentals of Motivational Interviewing (MI), a collaborative conversational style that strengthens a person’s own motivation and commitment to change. Participants will be guided through a sequence of learning activities to support the development of proficiency in the application of MI. Through activities designed to facilitate a deep understanding of the core MI concepts, participants will have an opportunity to practice and implement basic MI skills and strategies to reinforce their learning. In this training, participants will: 

  1. Explore ways to enhance behavior change using the MI approach; 

  2. Learn the key principles and core skills of MI; 

  3. Practice MI skills and strategies designed to evoke motivation for change. 

You should attend this training if you are a healthcare professional who: 

  1. Works with people to change their health behaviors; 

  2. Is interested in translating their MI knowledge into practice; 

  3. Wants a hands on opportunity to hone their MI skills.
