Group members will have the opportunity to:
• Discuss ways to use MI to get “unstuck” with motivating ambivalent or “resistant” clients to change (and particularly with challenging cases).
• Practice identifying and responding to change talk (language about changing).
• Sharpen skills to effectively respond to sustain talk (language about not changing) with clients who engage in power struggles.
• Smooth out the nuances of MI methods.
• Explore how to blend MI with other interventions/therapies (i.e., cognitive behavior therapy, mindfulness, interpersonal therapy, health coaching, psychodynamic therapy, etc.).
• Help build the agenda for each group session, including discussion of other topics areas in MI delivery (i.e., MI in group therapy/support groups, measurement of MI fidelity, MI supervision, etc.)
