How a supervisor gives feedback and support can make or break a supervisee’s confidence and developing competence.
The role of supervisor is vital in social work, yet many supervisors are never offered training to develop the specific skills that
will help them – and their direct reports - thrive.
Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques can be applied to help the supervisor establish strong relationships with supervisees, increase supervisee’s self-efficacy, and support supervisee development. This workshop will use the framework of MI to enrich the supervision meeting.
Participants will explore and practice the following in this interactive workshop:
- MI Skills (OARS & Gi) during the supervision meeting to increase staff insight, confidence and problem solving.
- Agenda Mapping with staff to improve efficiency and focus of the supervision meeting.
- Using the MI Spirit (CAPE) with staff to model compassion and develop a working alliance between supervisor and supervisee.
