Motivational Interviewing for Nurses Introductory Workshop
March 3, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work
West Washington Building - Los Angeles

As the underwriter for this workshop, USC’s Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work is offering it to nurses in the public for only $50, which includes 6 continuing education credits for registered nurses.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based, health behavior intervention, effective in strengthening patient engagement and motivation in a short amount of time. This 1-day interactive workshop provides participants with conversational skills to improve patient collaboration and follow-through. We will use demonstrations, videos, small group exercises, “real-plays” and role-plays to learn about and apply the MI spirit, skills, processes and strategies. Learn how to:

  • Reduce patient defensiveness and create better conversations/relationships with patients.

  • Understand why and how patients change and what is holding them back.

  • Identify how ready patients are for change.

  • Practice strategies for accessing and increasing patients’ own motivation for behavior change

  • Registered nurses attending in-person can earn 6 continuing education contact hours. Admission includes continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
